Mesothelioma Victim and Wife File Suit Against MetLife & Asbestos Companies
Philip A. Monroe and his wife Frances, are pursuing justice from multiple companies following his diagnosis with mesothelioma, the rare and fatal form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. In a claim filed in Illinois’ court system late last year, the couple has named Honeywell International, Foster Wheeler, Ford Motor Company, and other manufacturing organizations that are well-known for having exposed people to asbestos-containing products and work environments. They’ve also named Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, accusing the company of conspiracy.

Metropolitan Life Insurance Accused of Conspiracy by Mesothelioma Victim and His Wife
According to papers filed in court, Mr. Monroe is a Navy veteran who served for more than thirty years. He traces his asbestos exposure to asbestos included in military vessels and equipment, as well as on asbestos-containing products he was exposed to while performing home remodeling and automotive repair work.
Though the mesothelioma claim cites more than fifty companies that manufactured, sold, distributed, or installed the asbestos-containing parts and supplies that he was exposed to, the Monroes are also seeking justice from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, which they accuse of hiding the results of tests that would have shown the presence of the dangerous mineral in the products and environments in which he worked. The couple specifically points to studies that were terminated because the data they revealed would have been damaging to the life insurance company’s clients.
Claim Seeks Economic Damages for Mesothelioma Victim as Well As Loss of Consortium for Wife.
The claim filed by the Monroes seeks compensation for the economic damages that Mr. Monroe has suffered, including loss of earnings and medical costs. It also seeks damages on behalf of Mrs. Monroe for the loss of companionship and support resulting from her husband’s debilitating illness. The case is expected to be heard in Madison County, Illinois’s courts.
